19 March 2021

(Oromocto, NB) The Oromocto Town Council and the Board of Directors of the Oromocto & Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to launch two joint initiatives.  The Oromocto Business Beautification Award and the Wayfinding Signage Project are both aimed at supporting the local business community and attracting more visitors to the area.

Business Beautification Award

The Oromocto Business Beautification Award was launched on Tuesday, 16 March 2021, by Mayor Bob Powell and Mr. Marty Forsythe, President of the Oromocto & Area Chamber of Commerce.  This program aims to encourage local commercial businesses to beautify and maintain their storefronts and surrounding property.  Businesses located within the Town of Oromocto will have the chance to compete for a $2500 prize by registering for the program by 22 May 2021. For more information related to eligibility criteria, tips on beautifying your property and the registration form, please email the chamber at oromoctochamber@nb.aibn.com or visit their website at oromoctochamber.com.

Wayfinding Project

The Town was approached by the Oromocto and Area Chamber of Commerce to enhance signage, particularly for the main business districts in Oromocto; and, at the same time, the Town was working to update its tourism signage.  The two organizations, working together, developed a 3-phase plan to support the business community, increase community identity and to attract regional residents to the services offered in our community.   As part of the first and second phases, Council at its meeting on Thursday, 18 March 2021, approved a $25k expenditure to install three new welcome signs at entry points coming into Town and will work with the Provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to update the blue service symbols at all entry points to Oromocto.

Quote from Oromocto Mayor Bob Powell –

“The Town is pleased to be a financial partner with our business community to sponsor and support these two initiatives.  Collaborating with the chamber on these projects has enabled us to show our continued support of our local business community and to attract others to the area.”

Quote from President Marty Forsythe, Oromocto and Area Chamber of Commerce -

“ The OACC looks forward to partnering with the Town of Oromocto to proactively engage in initiatives that will not only encourage new businesses to become a vital part of the Oromocto community but raise the visibility of existing businesses to both residents and visitors.”
