Start of the 2026 Season – Biological Mosquito Control Program

An Info-mosquito line has been set up to answer citizens’ questions. 1-844-840-8700 or write to infomoustique@gdg.ca.

GDG Environment will continue its biological mosquito control program in the Town of Oromocto and at CFB Gagetown administrative facilities for the 2026 season. The program is designed to reduce mosquito populations by targeting larvae in their aquatic habitats before they develop into adult mosquitoes.

Treatments will be carried out in ponds and standing water where mosquito larvae are present, using a biological larvicide (Bti). Applications may be conducted from the ground and, when required, from the air. Operations are expected to begin around mid‑April, weather permitting, and to continue through September.

Prior to treatments, GDG Environment personnel will monitor potential development sites to determine when and where larvae are present. Only sites where mosquito larvae are detected will be treated. Because the biological product degrades quickly in the environment, additional treatments may be conducted during the season to control new generations.

Bti is a biological larvicide registered for use in Canada and recognized for its safety and selectivity. It targets mosquito larvae only, is biodegradable, and poses no risk to humans, wildlife, or the environment when applied according to established protocols. All activities are carried out in compliance with applicable regulations and with authorization from the New Brunswick Department of the Environment.

Reducing mosquito populations helps residents better enjoy outdoor spaces such as parks, trails, and green areas, while also lowering the risk of mosquito‑borne diseases, including the West Nile virus. This program supports a healthy environment and encourages safe participation in outdoor activities throughout the season.

To help reduce mosquitoes in residential areas, residents are encouraged to:

  • Start swimming pools early in the season.
  • Ensure proper drainage around the property.
  • Remove or empty tires, boats, buckets, and any containers that can collect standing water.

During the season, if you have any questions, we invite you to use the “Info-mosquito” line at: 1-844-840-8700 or write to infomoustique@gdg.ca.

Please note that vehicles and employees will always display the GDG Environnement logo.
