Fredericton Region Solid Waste Commission Reopens

  • 2020-05-13

Closed since March 15 due the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, the landfill at 1775 Alison Blvd. will be open May 13 during its regular hours including Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The landfill is also open Victoria Day Monday for regular hours.  FRSW is anticipating a surplus of traffic with the re-opening announcement and is asking residents to be patient and exercise safety and caution on Alison Boulevard and on-site. Vehicle traffic entering debris site will be directed to designated lanes for safety reasons.

There will be changes as FRSW makes necessary adjustments during the pandemic:

  • A number of on-site programs will re-open including Household Hazardous Waste depot each Wednesday (7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.) and Saturday (7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.)
  • Payment at the landfill scales is debit or cash.
  • All guided landfill tours and off-site visits have been suspended for the immediate future.

Recycling services and Recycle@Work programs remain suspended, but the good news is FRSW is eyeing a return to collection soon. Its Material Recovery Facility for sorting recycled material by hand continues to undergo transitions for employee safety. It is the most densely populated employee area at the landfill site and numerous alterations are being introduced. The suspension continues to include the Town of Oromocto’s depots (1000 Waasis Rd., 1198 Onondaga Dr., and 2 Gateway Dr.). Residents are asked to place recycle items in your garbage bags or to hold them until further notice.
